Chiang Mai

Mai oh Mai!

Beautiful Chiang Mai! We're here catching the tail end of the Loi Krathong festivities. This small city is awesome and beautiful. Second time I've been here and have a feeling it won't be the last...

Chiang Mai - more mountain-y up here :)

tuk-tuk ride to the night market to grab dinner

We all barely fit in this tuk tuk (Sara had to ride in the front jump seat)

Night market display (yes, that's an actual bat)

Music performer at Tha Phae gate. See his bike handle bars?

Yesterday after an amazing breakfast here at BED Phrasingh and working for a few hours, we walked around the historic center of Chiang Mai.  Sara's favorite Wat Chedi Luang was beautiful.  Then, the best damn green curry in the world at this small but crowded eatery.  :)

Will has been taking a lot of electrical wiring chaos photos.

Here are a few photos of Sara's walk after the rest of us went in for a nap :)

After dark, we headed to the main gate (old city wall), fixed Ed's latern on the square, walked a little and found ourselves at the night market.  Sara and Kristi got half hour foot massages followed promptly by another half hour head, neck and shoulder massage. :).  Will and Charles had a cold glass or two.  Then, off to find some guacamole at this Mexican restaurant near the bridge. We thought perhaps Ed was playing a joke on us - this restaurant was out of guacamole (what?) and out of chips, cheese, and chicken.  I'm not sure it still qualified a Mexican restaurant but we shared a nice mushroom and veg burrito wrap.

oh yahhhh

After dinner, we headed out to find a good place to light Ed's lantern. We found a beautiful spot on the Ping river to set off some test flights first before lighting Ed's which Sara and Will had to reconstruct. Will went out to find a replacement fuel part and then later recycled some wire from another lantern. Charles had some duct tape to patch a hole or 2. But...it...worked.  (See Sara's photos later. These photos below are of the "test" flights).

Loi Krathong festivities were winding down, but people were still sending krathongs and lanterns.
